MAY-JUNE 2024 AT PARIS ART STUDIES
The 80th Anniversary of the Liberation of France in 1944
An important number of ceremonies will be held in France this summer marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of France by Allied and French forces after the landing on the Normandy beaches on 6 June 1944.
Our series of five talks by our PAS lecturers and guest lecturer Major Joshua Watson will discuss all aspects of this vital year for the history of France and the world at a time when war has unfortunately returned to the European continent. We will cover D-Day, the Liberation of Paris, the photographers of the Liberation of France, the recapture of Art looted by the Nazis and the Women of the French Resistance.

MODERNIST PARIS - JAN.-FEB. 2024
The current exhibition « Paris de la modernité, 1905-1925 » at the Petit Palais (until 14 April 2024)
is the third, in a sequence that began in 2019, to explore the impact of the city on the culture of the modern era.
The exhibition covers every facet of the arts and society of the early 20th century and has given to our Paris Art Studies team the opportunity
to focus on four distinct aspects of the Paris golden age of the avant-gardes:
The birth of modern fashion through the career of couturier Paul Poiret, modern dance and spectacle through the building of the spectacular Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, rebellious art and modern psychology through the emergence of the Dada and Surrealist movements and radical right-wing politics through the spread of the Fascist and Nationalist leagues of the 1920s.
